Halloween 2009

Happy Halloween.

LPO in October.

I saw the London Philharmonic Orchestra on Wednesday, they were playing two composers I’ve heard all about but never really listened to: Scriabin and Wagner.

To be honest, I’ve only heard of Scriabin from T last December when he introduced me to Scriabin’s sonatas… the way he described Scriabin was ‘romantic, but a bit unique. Like not overly romantic’. I was just massively confused because the pieces made my heart palpitate at random rates whenever the time signature changed… they were everything but romantic. Well, so I never listened to any more Scriabin till Wednesday, when I decided to give him another chance. :P

Almost cried when I heard the piano concerto. :’) So beautiful… almost like Chopin. :’)

Well, well, Richard Wagner…. guy who looks like Stephen Fry. :P I never thought I was one for the operas. Never liked Puccini and absolutely HATED Turandot, and I never gave opera another chance. Hahaha… Not till Wednesday! See, this Wednesday was a night of new perspectives. Hahaha! Then came Wagner to sweep me off my feet with The Ring. Honestly, if you don’t know what The Ring is, you really should find out. Some say Tolkien was inspired by Wagner to write Lord of the Rings, some say he copied it off Wagner entirely… he denies it, but there are overwhelming similarities in the stories. You be the judge.

I really liked The Ring. :) And I can fully understand why people who love Wagner are all obsessed about him. He is quite the storyteller!

Now listening to Lohengrin. My musical taste is aging. :P

Hello Reading Week.

Hello. This feels strange… my unplanned reading week. Basically only found out last week that this week I’m gonna be on break from uni. Blah, I don’t want to be in London when I’m on holiday!! :( But can’t help it. I have so much work to do this week and a full year of clinicals to prepare myself for. Wails.

However, I am now procrastinating… for the first time this academic year. I just feel like doing nothing. Not an entirely good idea at this point. BUT I CANT BE ARSED! :/

But I’m playing tennis later, and tomorrow morning and Wednesday, and hopefully Thursday and Friday too. Have to max out playing time before the weather gets too cold. Different players every day! How fun is that! :D

S’s birthday over the weekend and my first time playing mahjong. It’s actually a very easy game, much easier than those card games I can never get my head around. I have a serious problem with the dots suit, they are all very ugly tiles.

Today doesn’t feel like a good day. I just feel horrible all over. Not ill, just horrible. :/

Goodness. My life is slowly seeping away from me. This intensive teaching is draining me. :( Though.. one more day before it all ends.

Then I go on clinicals.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh.
So tireddddd. :(

Weekend Shenanigans.

Hello! I haven’t talked about anything for a while now… Life has got into a nice little routine of full days of intensive lectures (9.30am – 5pm with 1hour lunch break). It is not that bad, really, just very tiring when you are in lectures. I have had a party every weekend since term started, it is pretty amazing how many events there are nowadays. BK’s birthday hotpot got the ball rolling… then we had TKG’s housewarming followed by DWEGS’s housewarming the next week.

DWEGS Housewarming

DWEGS’s housewarming wasn’t quite as exciting as TKG’s, probably because I didn’t know most of the people there, but did manage to meet up with a lot of people I haven’t seen since we broke for summer, so that was pretty good. I like DWEGS’s house though! Very big, like halls. :D

Tea with JT

The Sunday after DWEGS’s housewarming, I went for shopping and tea with JT/W and that was pretty fun though everyone was so tired. I am really very sad that JT is leaving us for good. :’(

W: This icing is so sugary.
JT: Obviously, it’s icing. What did you expect it to be made of? Fairies!?
K: Ice!

Hahaha.

This weekend we went to Portobello Market to play. There’s a lot to se in Portobello but nothing you’d actually want to buy… we just walked the length of it, had a bit of food and tired ourselves out pretty much. Haha.

Then cameJT's leaving JT’s leaving party at karaoke… Omg, it’s one of the best parties so far, I was having suchhhh a lot of fun despite there being good reason for me not to. Hahaha. It’s funny how my inclinations and behaviour I thought was very obvious was lost on everyone… Instead focus was on another ‘thing’ altogether. Oh gosh, I really want to rant all about it here, but I know better to, so you’ll have to make do with my incomprehensible censored complaints. JT should’ve got smashed, but instead was absolutely calm and serious throughout the whole night. He says he might just be a bit stressed, but is really happy that we all came. :( I don’t like being reminded of how he’s going away… it makes me think how I’ll be like when I eventually have to put down everything in London as well. :(

JT's leaving 2

Well, everyone also wanted J drunk, but he knew better. Hahaha, later everyone was very impressed at how he managed to not get drunk. Wahaha… A pity though, I think there will be little chances for me to see another drunk J anytime soon, though everyone promises he’ll go back to his unmanageable ways soon.

Things that happened on Saturday night also changed a lot of my thinking. Hahahahahah. More on that next time. :P

Sunday tea A really busy weekend ended with Sunday’s tea with Jess. Housie-bonding. We spent about 5 hours at tea just talking about life and such. Oh it was really nice to just sit down and have tea… tea time is really really my favourite time of the day… well, if I’m having tea that is. And then there’s breakfast :).

Okay I have no time to continue talking. I’m not being very interesting today anyway… Leaving it as that, it is Monday and back to work. I have a meeting with a primary school, then to the library to return books. :( I wanted to play tennis today, but I think after such a weekend I should recuperate before the last week of intensive lectures.

Weekend shenanigans won’t end there just yet. There is S’s birthday this Friday and V’s housewarming/Halloween party the week after. Halloween is here!! What should I go as?? :)))

TKG Housewarming TKG’s housewarming on Saturday was okay. I like the previous house better, though the layout is surprisingly similar. :/ But this house is more accessible. Hahah.

I think it’s the first time I actually actively looked after a drunk person. Usually I can’t be bothered, taking care of people is really not the kind of things I do, outside my job of course. For one, I really hate being touched and drunk people tend to flop over you and randomly grab you for support. Hence I got a bit bored… and there weren’t much scandalous/gossip-worthy activity going on at all, and everyone pretty much knew each other, so that was that. I was drinking a lot of coke and pretending it was more than just coke so hopefully no one came around with alcohol for me.

But then came J who was the most hilarious drunk I’ve ever met. REALLY funny. Made my day!! :D He sat down after a while and started playing 1520 with me and somehow though I am really slow, I just kept winning (probably because he was half-drunk) and then he got properly drunk and started doing the most hilarious things like carrying the guys around, challenging K to pushups, spouting cheesy pickup lines, and basically being a real jester. It was really fun.

Thanks TKG for having us!! I think WDGS having their housewarming next week. But first, a busy week at uni. Housie is back, it makes me happy cuz there’s life in the house. :P

It’s the first full-day of third year! How exciting! So much so that I can’t sleep! Hahaha, okay, that’s not true. But I really did wake up pretty early today, I think I’ve just been sleeping too much the past few days. We’re doing autistic spectrum disorders today, which is just about my favourite subject. Good to have it ease me into the 9-5 timetable.

I have actually just sat down and watched one of Y’s videos of “sweating men touching themselves”… It is not as pornographic as it sounds, really… Just some Korean she-dudes singing and dancing and yes, of course, sweating and touching themselves. She has been speaking in capital letters about these people and in the past few weeks, our conversations (read: her monologues) have not been about much else. I am still not convinced, but to each his own, I still love her. :D

Ooh. A lawnmower (man with a machine, not the machine by itself) has just turned up to mow the lawn/courtyard/garden/park-thing outside my place. Haha. It seems my neighbours don’t really work. There is a lot of activity during working hours, people walking in and out, taking out trash, mum with kid, yesterday even someone reciting lines in a most dramatic manner.

Oh yes, yesterday we saw a man walking down the road with a Grecian toga tunic and only after we passed him did we realise that, when in London, it is not entirely unexpected that someone might walk down the street dressed like a Greek god… I like how it is here. :)

Okay, gotta get ready for uni. x

Oh yes, and btw, I got bored of you. kthnxbai.

Can’t believe I will one day support a rapist, but really, I’m on Polanski’s side in this case.

Give the guy a break. He made some awfully good films, he lost his family in the war, he had his pregnant wife murdered in his own home together with other friends all in one night. He has done a bit of good and seen a lot of bad. Besides, he’s almost 80 and happily married. The chances of him going out there and drugging another minor for sex is as low as it can get.

If that’s not enough, the now middle-aged, happily-married-with-kids victim, would rather have the case put to rest than go through all the media hoo-hah again.

What’s good about putting him in jail now except to prove a point? It seems more logical to let him get on with his productions and hopefully come up with another instant classic in the next few years.
